Osteopathy The Hague

Hello! I’m Sebastiaan de Ridder. I have been an osteopath in The Hague since 2019. Before I became an osteopath, I worked for 10 years as a physiotherapist and manual therapist in The Hague.

My career as a physiotherapist began in 2007. After working as a general physiotherapist for a year, I started the 3-year master’s programme in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy in Utrecht. I completed this course in 2011.

During my training as a manual therapist I came into contact with osteopathy. The approach taken by osteopathy of looking at human beings in their entirety appealed to me so much that I started the 6-year study at College Sutherland in Amsterdam in 2012. In 2018 I completed the training and established Osteopathie de Ridder.

What are the guiding principles of Osteopathie de Ridder?

As a therapist I believe in the body’s natural self-healing ability. This is unique for each individual.

The logo of my practice shows the interaction between body and mind: the two circles that intersect each other. One circle symbolises the physical system (bones, muscles, organs, nerves), while the other symbolises the mental system. These two systems influence each other 24 hours a day and try to keep each other in balance. This ensures that our body can continue to function in both calm and difficult times. If one of the two gets out of balance and the compensation possibilities in the body are exhausted, it can cause complaints.

Cause of your complaint

A complaint can indicate a local problem, but can also be caused by another place in the body. This is because tissues (bones, muscles, organs, nerves) are directly or indirectly connected to each other. Nutrition also plays an important role in repairing, supporting or causing complaints.

When the balance between these systems is disturbed, physical, mental or emotional complaints can arise. This can happen, for example, due to an accident, surgery, sports injuries, an infection, the type of work you do or prolonged stress. At Osteopathie de Ridder we look for the cause of your complaints in you as an individual.

During the examination we explore the tissue’s loss of movement. By restoring that mobility, we aim to draw on your body’s self-regulatory ability.

The body is strong and can do a great deal by itself. Sometimes it only needs a push.

Collaboration

The openings in the logo represent collaboration. In my view, osteopathy is a fine healing method, but it cannot solve everything. I find it important to work together with other disciplines. I enjoy collaborating with doctors, specialists, physiotherapists, mesologists, psychologists, life coaches, acupuncturists, personal trainers and other therapists. In this way we achieve the best result.
